Question:
I have a 17 year old Yorshireterrier. She wears diapers as she cannot control her bladder anymore. She has had diaherra for the past week or so, and has developed a severe rash/infection on her rear. I have seen a little blood, but not much. She has been trying to have a bowel movement for the past hour but is not very sucessful. She is winning because it hurts. She never complains about anything, so I know she is hurting badly. The veternarian is not open now and was wandering what I could do to relieve her some pain. I have given her some pepto bismol and put hydrocortisone in her diaper, which I am changing about every 15 minutes. What could we do for her pain?

Answer:
Thanks for your email.

There is medication for urine incontinance. the pepto is great for
diarrhea. She should be seen. She needs a urine test to make sure
she does not have a bladder infection. The vet should be able to
prescribe stronger medication for the diarrhea. Make sure her hair
is not compacted around the anus area. The hydrocortisone is fine
for redness or neosporin. the pain issue the vet will need to prescribe
some medication.
