My dog groomer just recently informed me that she found 5 fleas on my 10 pd. papillion & said it was alot for a dog her size. I immediately got Frontline & used it within 24 hrs (the vet said I had to wait that long after her recent bath) & I have been vacuuming daily. Should I be doing anything else to get rid of these fleas? I've only seen one flea (I think it was a flea) since I was told on my dog & I haven't really seen any in the house. Should I get an exterminator? I have a toddler in the house so it concerns me. How do fleas affect people? It will be a week tomorrow that I found out. Thank you
Thanks for your email.
People do not get fleas. Vaccuming is the best. There is a new
study out from Ohio State that vaccuuming is the only thing you need
to do in your house. the fleas when vaccumed are killed. We recommend
cutting a flea collar up and putting in your vaccuum. The main
issue with fleas on animals is they can become anemic if not treated.
Using the frontline should be just fine and physically check the dog out.
You do not want to use flea collar and frontline or flea shampoo all
together it can be to toxic for the animal. You will need to check with
your area exterminator, I know there are areas of the country that
they have their house fumigated every 3 months.
