- Mar 24 2008: I had a 10 year old perfectly healthy Pom die yesterday for no apparent reason. Louie was an inside dog and a wonderful pet. Yesterday I let him outside and he didn't come to the door to come back inside as he usually does. He always come and scratches on the door to get back in within about 30 minutes. My husband went to check on him and found him lying in the back yard dead. There were no apparent signs of him being bitten or any injuries to his body. The only thing was that there was some blood coming from his rectum. He hasn't acted unusual or anything. He came and woke me up yesterday as he always does wanting to go outside. I just am beside myself and can't imagine what happened. Do you think he could have been poisoned, or had a stroke, or heart attack? Our vet is closed and my husband buried him or I would have tried to get him to the vet for some answers.
Sincerely,
Heartbroken

- Feb 25 2008: I have a 17 year old Yorshireterrier. She wears diapers as she cannot control her bladder anymore. She has had diaherra for the past week or so, and has developed a severe rash/infection on her rear. I have seen a little blood, but not much. She has been trying to have a bowel movement for the past hour but is not very sucessful. She is winning because it hurts. She never complains about anything, so I know she is hurting badly. The veternarian is not open now and was wandering what I could do to relieve her some pain. I have given her some pepto bismol and put hydrocortisone in her diaper, which I am changing about every 15 minutes. What could we do for her pain?

- Jan 15 2008: My two year old spayed golden mix continues to nibble and scratch herself constantly even thourgh we are using sentinel orally and capstar topically for parasites. We have tried obstaining from different foods for periods of time in case it is a food allergy with no luck. The hair on her belly is very thin and you can see through the hair where she has a rash from scratching and nibbling that area. Is it safe to rub hydrocortisone ointment on this rash. Also, I have been told you can give dogs hydroxyzine to calm itching. My dog weighs approximately 45 lbs; what would be a safe dose of hydroxyzine (if any) to give her. Please help. Thanks!
- Dec 28 2007: My 4 month old Shih Tzu/Maltese mixed puppy threw up this morning. He seems perfectly normal otherwise - eating, drinking, playing, going to the bathroom like normal - but he threw up this clear liquid early this morning in bed. Was it just a fluke? Before he did it he was fidgeting and scratching and licking a lot.
Thanks.

- Nov 8 2007: We brought home an approximately 1yr. and 6mos. fixed female cat from the pound as a companion for our older unspayed (yet) male. He was acquired as a stray, so we're not sure how old he is, but we're pretty sure he's older than she is. The problem is, as soon as we got her home, she started sneezing/sniffling, and then shortly thereafter, so did he. She had the usual runny nose and eyes of a cold, and so did he. She ate fine, and drank well, and at first, so did he. Then he went through a period of about a day where he was drooling terribly, and not "talking" much...we thought maybe he had a sore throat from the cold, and basically just coaxed him to drink and cleaned him up when he drooled too much. Now she's running all over the place, seeming perfectly well again, except for still sneezing/sniffling...but he's been scarily lethargic for a couple of days, and not eating/drinking so well. He -will- still eat...he has to be coaxed to, but he will...and he's not behaving like our kittens that had distemper, last year. His eyes and nose have cleared up, his discharge is firm, and other than the laying around all day and needing to be coaxed to eat, he seems ok. What can we do for him, other than bring him in to be looked at, and is this a serious issue? It frightens me, as like I said, we had two kittens that died of distemper just last year, and I -don't- want to lose him.
- Nov 7 2007: I have a three year old German Shepard. He is as we believe and the vet that he is in great health. However, in the past week or so we have noticed him rubbing and scratching his ears and moaning while doing so. My husband is presently trying to clean out the outer/inner parts of his ears. There is a fair amount of darkish brown substance on the Q-Tip after doing so.
My Question is how the heck can I get Dutch (our Shep) out of all this ear trouble and what do you think it may be?
Thank you and sincerely,
Linda wurst, Eric, and of course Dutch
- Sep 27 2007: I purchased a puppy 4 days ago and when I got her they told me she had diahrea and she was taken to the vet and given some pills and she should be fine. She still has the runs and there is blood in her stool. I was wondering if this will go away or is there something I can do to try to help her before taking her to the vet again.
- Sep 18 2007: I have a cat that is 20 yrs. old & has lost quite a bit of weight and drinks a LOT of water. She seems to be eating more than usual as well.
Her name is Haywire & comes by the name naturally. She has always been indoors. I am very concerned about taking her to a vet, as she gets easily stressed & I don't want to add anymore at her age. Also her back legs are very stiff when walking which is probably arthritis. Could you please let me know what I can do for her at home to make her more comfortable. Thank you
- Sep 17 2007: I was told that their is a person that comes to your clinic for chiropractic adjustments for dogs. Is that true??
- Sep 11 2007: My dog groomer just recently informed me that she found 5 fleas on my 10 pd. papillion & said it was alot for a dog her size. I immediately got Frontline & used it within 24 hrs (the vet said I had to wait that long after her recent bath) & I have been vacuuming daily. Should I be doing anything else to get rid of these fleas? I've only seen one flea (I think it was a flea) since I was told on my dog & I haven't really seen any in the house. Should I get an exterminator? I have a toddler in the house so it concerns me. How do fleas affect people? It will be a week tomorrow that I found out. Thank you

- Sep 5 2007: I have a 13wk old Border Collie/Germ Shep.mix. She eats fast I give her a cup of food in the am/1/2 cup at lunch & 1 cup in the evening of Blue Buffalo Company holistic puppy food. Just the past couple days she has had diareah and wants lots of water...any idea why all of a sudden she has diareah? How much water should she intake? She wants to drink alot. Thank you. I'm taking her to the Vet on Friday (today is Wed) I'll let her know too.
- Sep 3 2007: Love your site, I recommend it often! :-)
I have two beloved half Bengal cats, neutered, but one isn't vaccinated: since I live right on coyote alley (by Kits beach), I keep them indoors, they have never been out but seem quite happy in my big appartment. For a little hunting fun, I often bring them feathers to play with, which I find on my walks... Can cats get diseases, and/or parasites from wild bird feathers (crows, seagulls)??? Also, they love to devour any insect in sight, can they somehow get sick from eating bugs like silverfish, moths, spiders or small centipedes?? May sound a little silly, but I've often wondered... and why do they stay away from ants, do these smell/taste bad? Thanks guys!
